Tavi Flanagan is an associate in the Newport Beach office of Irell & Manella LLP, where she is a member of the firm’s litigation and bankruptcy practice groups. Ms. Flanagan focuses her practice in the areas of bankruptcy, insolvency, reorganization, and business litigation. She has represented debtors, trustees, and creditors’ committees in connection with bankruptcy cases, adversary proceedings, and related commercial litigation. Ms. Flanagan has played principal roles in connection with numerous large Chapter 11 reorganization cases, and she has worked with clients to negotiate and implement plans of reorganization, to restructure their financial affairs, to maximize the value obtained through bankruptcy sales of business assets, and to emerge from the bankruptcy process as viable enterprises.
Ms. Flanagan has been recognized as a California “Rising Star” by Law & Politics Media Inc. and has contributed to various publications and programs, including “The ‘New Value’ Defense in Preference Actions” presented by the Orange County Bar Association, Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section; “Bankruptcy Litigation: A Workshop in Trial Strategy” presented by the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum Special Projects Committee; and “Advanced Evidence in Bankruptcy,” presented by the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum Special Projects Committee.
Representative Matters
Recent public matters in which Ms. Flanagan has been involved include Accuride Corporation (Committee counsel); Imperial Credit Industries (Trustee counsel); Guardian Real Estate Fund (Debtors’ counsel); Windsor Woodmont dba Black Hawk Casino by Hyatt (Debtor’s counsel); Tecstar Power Systems (Debtor’s counsel); Chevy’s Restaurants (Committee & Trustee counsel); Centis, Inc. (Committee & Trustee counsel); Universal Broadband (Committee & Trustee counsel); Edwards Theatres (Committee counsel); Spectrum Restaurant Group (Committee counsel); Sydran (Committee counsel).
Ms. Flanagan earned her J.D. at the University of Southern California in 1993, where she was the Senior Editor of the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal and the Major Tax Planning Journal and received the American Jurisprudence Award in property. She earned her B.A., with honors, in Psychology at the University of California, Irvine in 1989. From 1993 to 1994, Ms. Flanagan served as the law clerk to the Honorable John E. Ryan, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Central District of California.
Ms. Flanagan is admitted to practice before all of the courts of the state of California. She also is admitted to practice before all four of the United States District Courts in the state of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Flanagan is a member of the State Bar of California.
