Mytili Bala is an associate in the Newport Beach office of Irell & Manella LLP, where she is a member of the firm’s securities and intellectual property practice groups.  Ms. Bala is currently defending several securities fraud cases in state and federal court involving mortgage-backed securities and monoline credit guaranty insurance.  She recently helped win a motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction on behalf of the former CEO of a mortgage lender accused of securities fraud.

Ms. Bala has trial experience; she participated in a seven-week commercial arbitration between two technology companies in which she helped prepare a key percipient witness and damages experts for trial.  In addition, Ms. Bala has participated in and attended hearings and depositions through her involvement in the firm’s securities fraud matters. 

Prior to joining Irell, Ms. Bala was a litigation associate at Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago where she represented a telecommunications company against consumer fraud allegations in state court.

Ms. Bala earned her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2009 where she was Senior Editor of the Human Rights and Development Law Journal.  Ms. Bala earned her B.A. in Economics, with honors, from the University of Chicago in 2005.

She is fluent in Tamil and proficient in Spanish.
