State Bar Honors Irell With President's Pro Bono Service Award

08.2013

Irell & Manella LLP's Newport Beach office was honored by the State Bar of California with a 2013 President's Pro Bono Service Award. The award was presented by California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye at a reception on Friday, October 11 during the 2013 State Bar Annual Meeting in San Jose.

The State Bar Board of Trustees created the President’s Pro Bono Service Awards in 1983. The awards recognize California attorneys, law firms and associations of California lawyers who have provided or enabled the direct provision of legal services to poor persons or organizations whose primary purpose is to provide legal services to the poor, free of charge, without expectation of compensation from the client, in the preceding calendar year.

Irell's Newport Beach office was nominated for the award by Kenneth Babcock, Executive Director of Public Law Center (PLC) in Orange County. Irell attorneys partner with PLC, University of California, Irvine School of Law, and the Legal Aid Society of Orange County to provide free legal services to low-income residents in areas such as immigration, asylum, veterans' rights, consumer litigation, and bankruptcy. Irell attorneys also frequently volunteer at the Federal Court Pro Se Program, which is organized by PLC.
