UC Irvine School of Law Honors Irell with Pro Bono Award

04.2014

The University of California, Irvine School of Law has selected Irell & Manella LLP as the recipient of the 2014 Pro Bono Partner Award. The award will be presented on April 10 at the UCI Law Annual Pro Bono Awards, an event honoring students for their pro bono work and outstanding partners of the program.

During the past 18 months, Irell lawyers have worked alongside UCI Law students in connection with the three of the school's pro bono projects, including:

  • Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project: Providing legal assistance to refugees seeking resettlement from abroad. For example, the firm recently obtained a special immigrant visa for an Afghani man who served as an interpreter for the U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan for several years.
  • Litigation Assistance Project: UCI Law students assist Irell lawyers with ongoing pro bono litigation matters affecting active military personnel and veterans.
  • Bankruptcy Assistance Project: Irell attorneys supervise students assisting low-income debtors with completing and filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy applications.
