Irell Launches Cyber Liability and Privacy Practice

02.2015

Irell & Manella LLP is pleased to announce the formation of its Cyber Liability and Privacy Practice, a cross-disciplinary group dedicated to assessing, investigating and litigating matters arising from information security and data breach incidents.

The multi-disciplinary group consists of lawyers from the firm's insurance, class action, securities, intellectual property, white collar and corporate governance practice groups. The team is built around Irell's class action defense practice with a strong track record of defeating class claims as well as a seasoned group of computer science IP litigators with vast technical experience in matters involving networks, software and security.

The group's primary objective is to help clients proactively prepare for their specific cyber exposure, often in concert with security experts. The group's cross-practice approach can provide an in-depth assessment to help reduce risk and position and prepare clients should a breach occur. Actions include reviewing insurance policies to analyze coverage and recommending policies to help protect electronic data and trade secrets.

If a breach occurs, the group is well-equipped to guide clients on how to deal with insurers, the media and federal and state regulators. The firm's extensive class action experience provides groundwork to mitigate loss, prepare for potential shareholder and consumer class action suits and if necessary defend against them.
