Win for Juniper Networks Named a Top Defense Verdict by the Daily Journal

02.2019

Irell & Manella LLP's win for Juniper Networks Inc. in patent infringement litigation with Finjan Inc. was included among the Daily Journal's Top Verdicts for 2018. The article noted that Finjan, a publicly traded patent licensing company, claims to have obtained more than $350 million by licensing its patents, and that it has sued or threatened to sue virtually every major player in the cybersecurity arena. While other companies have capitulated to Finjan's demands rather than mount a full-scale defense, the article said, Juniper was an exception and fought back at trial.

Irell persuaded Judge William Alsup in San Francisco to grant summary judgment of no infringement on one cybersecurity patent, and, in December 2018, won a jury verdict of no infringement on another. The team representing Juniper includes Jonathan Kagan, Rebecca Carson and Alan Heinrich.
