NewsMorgan Chu Recognized on Daily Journal’s Top IP Lawyers List
Morgan Chu was selected to the Daily Journal’s 2020 Top IP Lawyers list, which honors the 75 California lawyers who have made the biggest mark in the intellectual property field. The Daily Journal noted that Morgan logged a pair of high-profile wins in December 2019: On behalf of NantKwest Inc., he persuaded the U.S. Supreme Court to unanimously strike down the USPTO’s policy that applicants who appeal to a district court must foot the agency’s legal bills, no matter who wins. He also convinced a jury to award Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research and Juno Therapeutics, Inc. $752 million and a finding of willful infringement in a patent suit against Kite Pharma Inc. A judge subsequently boosted the award to $1.2 billion. The publication also noted that Morgan is currently defending Skechers USA, Inc. in patent litigation brought by Nike Inc.
