Irell Scores Trio of LMG Life Sciences Awards

09.2020

Irell captured several honors at the 2020 LMG Life Sciences Awards virtual ceremony, including recognition for Morgan Chu as General Patent Litigator of the Year for California. Additionally, two of the firm’s victories were recognized as Patent Impact Cases of the Year: the $752 million jury award (enhanced to $1.2 billion) and willful infringement finding for Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research and Juno Therapeutics in a suit against Kite Pharma involving cancer immunotherapy, and NantKwest’s unanimous U.S. Supreme Court win, in which the justices struck down the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s policy that applicants who appeal to a district court must foot the USPTO’s legal bills, no matter who wins.

The Irell team representing Juno and Sloan Kettering included Morgan, Alan Heinrich, Elizabeth Tuan and Rebecca Carson. The team representing NantKwest included Morgan, Alan and Michael Harbour.

LMG Life Sciences Awards are given to firms, individuals and companies behind the most innovative and challenging life sciences work during the past year.
